Usually in model land the controversy lies over the size of the models, well this season it’s over their race. We were surprised to hear that out of all of the models casted for New York Fashion Week this season, only 16 percent of them were non-white. Less than 10 designers, including Christian Siriano, gave an opening or closing spot to a non-white model. Less than 5 designers, including Preen, only casted white models. Less than 20 designers, including Calvin Klein, only casted one non-white model. As we discussed last week, Daniel Vosovic casted 15 Asian models so he probably made up a bulk of that 16 percent count.
What does this tell us? Well a few things could be happening here. Either designers just don’t cast non-white models, or the non-white models are ugly, aren’t the right body type, or can’t walk, OR there aren’t that many to choose from.
Too Many Crackers At Fashion Week
